Chromebook Care

All students are expected to use and care for all of the Chromebooks as if they are their own devices. Parents/guardians may be financially responsible for any device that is determined to be damaged due to the negligence of a student.  

Google Accounts

All students in grades 3-6 are assigned a Google account and email. All activity done through a student account is traceable. Student accounts should be used for school and educational purposes only and any student found to be using their (or another student's) account inappropriately or unethically will be subject to disciplinary action.

Privacy

All activity done over the Helen I. Smith School network is private and secure. Student data will never be released or shared.

Ethical use of Internet/Plagiarism

Helen I. Smith School strives to foster an environment of academic integrity. Students are expected to produce original works with appropriate citations.  It is the policy of the Saddle Brook School District to maintain an educational environment in which plagiarism will not be tolerated.

Plagiarism is using the ideas or words of others without giving them credit.  Even if it is unintentional, plagiarism is theft. 

The Saddle Brook School District prohibits all forms of plagiarism.  Plagiarism may result in disciplinary action.

Social Media and Cyberbullying

If students choose to be active on social media platforms outside of school, they must remember that they are representatives of Helen I. Smith School and should act accordingly. When posting on social media, please remember these rules: 

• Know who you are taking to

• Be your best self

• Be positive

• Set your privacy settings

• Follow school rules

If any student is found to be cyberbullying any other student or person, and investigation will occur and the student may receive disciplinary action, even if the cyberbullying was done at home on a private computer/network.
