December Correspondence

12.09.21

At last night's BOE meeting we discussed how the original Parent Uniform Survey did not provide us with accurate data. (The way you answered the first question, determined if you were sent to the second question.) My apologies for not recognizing this before it was sent out. Please know that the Policy Subcommittee of the BOE is committed to meeting the needs of our school community. What we did learn from the survey is that parents overwhelmingly are in support of our school uniforms (67.9% of the 723 responses received are in support of the uniform policy as is).

The BOE Policy committee opened up this policy at the request of numerous parents stating their children found the uniform uncomfortable, difficulty with finding appropriate sizes, some sensory issues with the feel of the pants, etc. Based on this information the Policy committee is sending out another survey to determine if our school community feels there is a need to revise the policy to allow students to wear their gym uniforms to school each day.  Please click here to answer this two question survey: https://forms.gle/f97hgs2QZAVzm3nXA. The survey will close at 9am on Monday, December 13th.

December 8th BOE Student Representative Updates

December 6, 2021 email:

Good Afternoon, All.

Below are some updates and reminders:

  • We had an unscheduled Shelter in Place at our MSHS today due to an individual fainting. This individual was transported to the hospital via ambulance. Everyone is doing okay.
  • Our Homework Clubs are going strong. MSHS: This is for your students as well!  Please note that Homework Club will be canceled when that building has half-days.
  • Start Strong student reports: This is the state assessment some students took at the start of the school year. The hard copies of Individual Student Reports are scheduled to be mailed out to the districts on December 14th.  We will then work to mail them out to our families. (The video Individual Student Reports - for parents to access - they are saying will be available on December 17th. More info will follow on this once it is received.)
  • K-6 report cards are scheduled to be opened for parents at 3:00pm on Friday, December 17th. Individual comments are no longer on the report card. Teachers are able to choose a maximum of five comments from a predetermined bank of comments.
  • We will share the results of the uniform survey at our Wednesday BOE meeting. The next steps are for the policy subcommittee to meet and review this information.
  • Our use (and planned use) of the government issued ESSER (Elementary & Secondary School Emergency Relief) funds are posted on our website under District Shortcuts.
  • Also, under District Shortcuts, is the link to our Strategic Planning website with all information thus far. Please consider joining us - your input is valued.
  • The entire district will participate in our Winter Wonderland spirit week this year (The week of December 20th.)
    • Monday = Winter White Wonderland
    • Tuesday = New Year's Eve Party - dress to impress
    • Wednesday = Ugly Holiday Sweater
    • Thursday = Holiday or winter pajamas

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns or suggestions for our district.
